“1. I went into pediatrics of course for my love of kids - they are just so honest and so fun to talk to and you can’t really get mad at them for getting sick or not listening to you lol. Also I love having to know physiology from newborns to even adults especially for our patients who are adults who have congenital heart disease palliations or pediatric cancers.
There are a fair amount of procedures from lines, to chest tubes, to intubations, etc. and I actually do love rounding and going into deep dives into physiology.
Even though I find all the systems fascinating I was not interested in being a specialist of one organ system - I like being in the middle and asking my colleagues who are experts in those fields for help.”
Thanks for the wonderful insight, James! Designing PICU boy was tough- he has so many elements that are seen in other specialties! In keeping with that, I gave him one of the same weapons as Anesthesia girl (laryngoscope blade scythe) & the bronchi motif seen in IM & Pulm Crit girls. To highlight his Peds element, I gave him a spell circle that’s has vaccination runes, and added simple shapes to his cloak. I wanted him to be flashy but stylish!
