The title of this article, “The Grind of Medical Training Makes Us Better Physicians,” is actually not a take I agree with. But I was told that I needed to be more “positive” & I’m getting my bag - so I will give this. Did my training make me less scared of emergencies? Yes. Has my ability to read an EKG improved drastically in the last six months? Absolutely. As a third year medical student, three patients on consults would take me an entire day to understand; now I can (grumbling) oversee 20+ fairly comfortably. And I keep learning. There’s always more to know, and the more I learn, the more I realize that true mastery of the human body is something that is probably not achievable in medicine any time soon.
